Ben Franklin and his Kite (K-5)                  
Co-produced by the Carpenter Science Theatre Program of the Science Museum of Virginia

Take an "enlightening" journey into the experiment that changed the course of history!  250 years ago, (in June of 1752, to be precise), Ben Franklin "shocked" the world with his discovery that lightning held electricity - and thus rendered scientists "thunderstruck"!  This entertaining and educational play brings the history and science curriculum to life.  Contains information from the SOL for Science in all elementary grades.

Celebrating over 25 Years of Keeping Children Safe!
Co-produced by Prevent Child Abuse Virginia and the Virginia Department of Social Services (VA DSS)

HugsThe Commonwealth of Virginia’s award winning principal good touch – bad touch safety program, seen by over 1,170,000 Virginia school children since 1983. The musical play sensitively and inoffensively relates the story of a little girl who is sexually abused and who learns valuable lessons that enable her to seek and obtain help from a trusted adult. The program is proven to increase children’s knowledge of sexual abuse prevention resources and techniques, encourage teacher training in the issue and helps build healthy families and strong communities.

Script and study guide available on our web site. Minimum audience of approximately 300 students required. The fee for this performance is only $125 due to a grant from the Virginia Department of Social Services. A small travel fee may apply.

Buffalo Soldier (Grades 3 -12)

Based on the true story of our nation’s longest-surviving Buffalo Soldier and veteran of the Spanish-American War, this dramatic play with music tells the heroic story of the brave soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalries, who served our country well with little of the recognition they deserved. In 1996, Buffalo Soldier was one of twelve plays selected as the Best American Plays for Young Audiences and has been performed at the Pentagon in honor of African American History Month. Buffalo Soldier was written by our artistic director, Bruce Craig Miller, and developed with support from Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest New Works for Young Audiences, a program of the Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest Fund.
